MFA Legal

MFA Legal was founded in November 2023 as an independent tax boutique. The firm represents clients in complex cases in the energy, financial and insurance, telecoms, distribution, and health sectors. Tax litigation and arbitration are thematic strengths. The managing partner is Samuel Fernandes de Almeida. Fellow partner Joana Lobato Heitor is the incumbent litigation specialist in residence.  

The firm acted for ANA Aeroportos de Portugal tax proceedings regarding the application of stamp duty exemption on cross-border cash-pooling arrangements with provision for territorial applications. It also advised CCCA on tax audits pertaining to real estate depreciations under IFRS 16 rules. A private client was advised on operational restructuring.  

Senior associate Catarina Gomes Correia arrived from SRS Legal in September 2024.
