Overview

KPMG Portugal operates a very large practice, working across all areas of direct and indirect taxation. Its practice focuses on the financial sector, including corporate taxation and indirect taxation. It also has a growing private client advisory department following the creation of the Portuguese incentive plans. Head of tax is partner Luís Magalhães. Partner Ricardo Girão is the indirect specialist, and Miguel Baptista is based in financial services tax. Associate partner João Guimarães is the transfer pricing specialist and associate partner Luís Reis oversees the corporate function in the Angola office.  

The firm provided financial model review, valuation services and capital structure evaluation for an African multinational in a private equity transaction. It also assisted an infrastructure fund with M&A buy-side and financial due diligence services, inclusive of a special purchase agreement. M&A Tax guidance was given to Quinta do Lago in connection with the acquisition of the Conrad hotel. 

Transfer pricing director Gonçalo Cevada arrived form Deloitte Luxembourg on May 2nd, 2025. Senior manager Catarina S. Carreira joined form EY in 2024, and tax manager Tânia Silva relocated from Deloitte in September 2024. Outbound partner Michael A. Santos departed the corporate tax function in May 2025.

The firm provided buy-side tax due diligence, tax structuring and SPV advice to a global supermarket. It also provided intragroup negotiation and insurance evaluation as part of its transfer pricing services.
