At CDH we are committed to promoting human rights, enabling access to justice and driving meaningful change. This is why we set up a dedicated Pro Bono & Human Rights Practice (Pro Bono Practice), which provides thousands of hours of pro bono assistance to numerous deserving individuals and organisations each year. In 2024 alone, our firm dedicated over 10,000 hours to providing more than R37 million in pro bono legal services to individuals, organisations, and causes.

Through dedicated legal advocacy and impact litigation, our Pro Bono Practice works to transform lives and uphold justice, striving to ensure that we play our part in giving vulnerable individuals and communities access to the legal support they deserve.

We are proud to present our Pro Bono Practice’s 2024 newsletter, showcasing the milestones and groundbreaking cases that have shaped the past year. This edition highlights CDH’s work in many critical areas, including promoting the rights of victims of gender-based violence, helping young people who were being denied their right to citizenship, supporting informal settlement dwellers who were seeking dignity and to enforce their right to housing, and assisting apartheid victims and their families in their pursuit of justice. It also showcases our firm’s significant contributions made through training and workshops, as well as our many corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community upliftment projects.

Each of these efforts forms part of the greater tapestry of our firm’s commitment to justice and the social good, a commitment reflected in both large-scale initiatives and everyday acts of service.

Our deepest gratitude goes to everyone who contributed their time, energy and passion to our pro bono and CSR work in 2024. Your dedication has made a real difference in the lives of many, and we look forward to continuing this going forward.

We hope that some of what you read inspires you to play your part in overwhelming the world with little acts of good.
