Why did you choose to pursue a career in tax? Was there an ‘aha’ moment? If so, please describe.

Since the start of university path, I was always eager to pursue a solid professional background, where I could provide services to help clients in a variety of different industries.

From your career, is there a particular deal that sticks out to you as a turning point, or watershed moment for you, and why? What did you learn or take away from that deal?

There are too many to mention, both in this firm and at my previous firm, but I found a variety of transactions, especially those with an international dimension, stimulating and formative.

What do you consider to be the greatest achievements of your career to date?

There are quite a few instances where the achievements have been immensely satisfactory, such as dealing with tax authorities in the interest of clients and in assisting clients in judicial proceedings.

Tax work in the pandemic era

What kind of challenges did you face adapting to the workplace amid the pandemic?

As with most professionals, carrying out the work was quite challenging without a direct interface with colleagues, clients, and other counterparts, such as tax authority officials and tax court judges.

Are there any initiatives that you have observed which you feel may help your clients deal with the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic?

I believe that the new approach to appropriately adjust the mixture between office and remote work might lead to relevant savings in terms of direct cost and also from an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) perspective.

What is the most significant change to your region/jurisdiction’s tax legislation or regulations in the past 12 months?

Extraordinary intervention due to COVID-19 and specific incentives on the domestic and EU basis.

What was one of the most interesting deals you worked on in the past year and why?

We assisted one of our major clients, in our office, in the ruling proceeding for the interpretation of domestic law concerning the opportunity of assets fiscal value alignment, and also in achieving the recognition of the tax relevance of a huge amount related to the value of goodwill.

What potential other legislative/regulatory changes are on the horizon that you think will have a big impact on your region/jurisdiction?

Further incentives and a possible general tax reform.

A career in tax

What key piece of advice would you give to young attorneys just getting into a firm or entry-level job? Is there something you wish you knew when you were first starting out?

The value of team building, networking, and as a whole, interaction with other people.

What does your firm do to nurture and promote talent? Do you think it compares well to others in your market in this area?

An increasing attention to people and the career paths of each professional, while taking into consideration the principles of paramount importance, such as diversity and inclusion.
