Practice overview:

Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited’s (“DTTL”) global network of member firms in the Americas region has approximately 650 global trade and indirect tax professionals located in approximately 240 offices in all major markets of the Americas region. These professionals provide indirect tax and global trade compliance, advisory, and technology enablement services to many Fortune Global 500® companies seeking to manage and enhance their global indirect tax and global trade positions. The ability of our professionals to work with Deloitte’s consulting, financial advisory, and risk advisory professionals within the Americas region helps clients holistically navigate through the tax implications of their broad business challenges with confidence.

Our Americas region professionals help clients to be on top of their indirect tax obligations, whether it relates to complex supply chain matters, audits and controversy or process and technology needs. To name a few examples, the practice helps clients enhance their indirect tax and global trade processes and procedures, establish compliance and reporting systems, and examine their teams and technologies in order to thrive in a world more complex than ever. Furthermore, the practice helps our clients respond to the changing demands of e-filing, e-invoicing, and e-audits where local tax and trade authorities leverage technology in their collection and administrative efforts.

Highlight your regional network in a few sentences (what’s unique or different):

DTTL’s global network of member firms in the Americas region enables our professionals to quickly and efficiently deploy the right local and regional indirect tax and global trade teams on projects, as needed. Our Americas region professionals also draw on the capabilities and strengths of a global practice of more than 2,700 indirect tax and global trade professionals who—along with consulting, financial advisory, and risk advisory professionals—deliver broad-scale, tax-aligned business solutions.

Our key differentiator is our highly technology-skilled practice, that has a coordinated cross-border and cross-functional approach, as well as a network of virtual and physical centers of excellence (“COEs”) and regional delivery centers (“GDCs”). These COEs and GDCs are aligned with global technology platforms that offer a wide scope of integrated indirect tax and global trade compliance, consulting, and automation services. This network helps our Americas region professionals provide value to clients in any part of the region in a cost-efficient and effective way.

Can you speak of the indirect tax growth in your region (why/how it’s affected the business):

Ongoing legislative developments have resulted in constantly changing and new business requirements and are driving the growth of indirect tax and global trade across the region. The increasing volume and complexity of requirements, combined with the need for near-time/real-time reporting and e-invoicing, are the biggest challenges companies face in the region. Furthermore, the ever-increasing complexities in global and regional supply chains means that our clients, more than ever, rely on Deloitte for support in managing the numerous indirect tax obligations related to their business. Considering that countries are continuously seeking to enhance and expand in this regard, as well as in their use of technology, the need for indirect tax and global trade services in the region will only continue to increase.

How is your region innovative? Speak of digital capabilities:

In anticipation of increasing digitization, DTTL’s global network of member firms have been investing heavily in technology and analytics capabilities. Examples in this respect include Global Trade Radar and Global VAT/GST Radar, which are both analytics tools that give our clients deep insight into their global indirect tax and trade profiles. Furthermore, Deloitte has rolled out a truly global indirect tax compliance solution covering the Americas region, called myInsight Indirect Tax Compliance.

Our professionals in the Americas region are working with clients on transformative solutions to manage their indirect tax and global trade organizations, leveraging the latest technologies. For instance, robotic process automation and blockchain are used for process and governance improvements, and artificial intelligence and cognitive technology are used for customs tariff classification determination and indirect tax lookback reviews.

Furthermore, our region is aligned with the global technology platforms of the global network of member firms, including the proprietary tool “”, which enables us to offer integrated technology solutions that cut across multiple disciplines, and cater to clients’ overall business challenges rather than just their indirect tax or global trade challenges.

What are your capabilities in particular countries? (+if you can speak of digital capabilities):

Our ability to deliver the strength of the Deloitte organization—which includes DTTL’s global network of member firms and their related entities—by aligning our indirect tax and global trade capabilities with the technology and business transformation capabilities of our tax, consulting, and advisory colleagues, results in deep knowledge of new and upcoming technologies and how they can be beneficial to indirect tax and global trade. As an integrated service provider, the Deloitte organization maintains a key position in this area due to our combination of capabilities, whether it be information technology professionals, business professionals, tax professionals, or any other type of professional.
